New Year's Resolutions at Johnston Public Library


New year. New Year’s resolutions. Let the Johnston Public Library help you fulfill your New Year’s resolutions with some of our great resources including books, magazines, DVD’s, online sites and more.

Resolution #1: Exercise. Add some variety into your workout routine with some new exercise DVD’s and books. Here are just a few to help you flex your muscles: Witness to Fitness: Pumped Up, Powered Up, All Things Are Possible! by Donna R. Joyner; Ballet Body: Upper Body Workout DVD;  Discover Tai Chi for Fitness DVD; and Jumpstart to Skinny by Bob Harper.

Resolution #2: Eat healthy. We have a bounty of tasty, healthy-eating cookbooks to help you add variety and health to your family’s menu. Check out some of these great cookbooks in our nonfiction section, and don’t forget to try out Zinio for free online subscriptions to some of your favorite food magazines. Here is a sampling: What Doctors Eat: Tips, Recipes, and the Ultimate Eating Plan by Tasneem Bhatia; Superfood Kitchen: Cooking with Nature’s Most Amazing Foods by Julie Morris; The Omni Diet by Tana Amen; and Thrive Foods: 200 Plant-Based Recipes for Peak Health by Brendan Brazier.

Resolution #3: Learn a new language. This is your year to learn a new language. Let us help you do it with Mango Languages, our online database available for Johnston cardholders for free through our website at www.johnstonlibrary.com. This online language learning tool combines everyday conversation skills, memory building strategies and interactivity. It's engaging, easy to use and it works. While you’re at it, don’t forget to try out Muzzy Online, a language learning tool for kids, also available at www.johnstonlibrary.com. Stop in and speak to a Reference Librarian to have your questions about Mango and Muzzy answered.

Resolution #4: Get finances in order. It’s personal finance made easy. Check out some of these informative financial planning books from the leading experts in the field: All The Money in the World: What the Happiest People Know About Getting and Spending by Laura Vanderkam; Happy Money: The Science of Smarter Spending by Elizabeth Dunn; Money Rules: The Simple Path to Lifelong Security by Jean Sherman Chatzky; and The Seven Pearls of Financial Wisdom by Carol Pepper.

Resolution #5: Enjoy life.
The library is your one-stop culture shop. Enrich your life with the latest James Patterson thriller or the newest biography that everyone is talking about. We have fiction, nonfiction, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, online magazines, graphic novels, cake pans, puppets, DVD’s, blu-rays, cd books, portabooks, cd’s and so much more.
