2. City budget to add $13.5M (nwestiowa.com) — Le Mars residents could see major changes as the city moves to amend its budget by $13.45 million for water and wastewater upgrades and new housing land, with a public hearing set for Tuesday, May 19. Barn fires in Iowa kill hundreds of hogs, destroy farm buildings (agdaily.com) — Firefighters from Le Mars were called in to help battle a major hog barn fire in rural Plymouth County that killed about 300 hogs and destroyed the building, while protecting nearby propane tanks and equipment. In a separate north-central Iowa blaze, crews saved a family home and most livestock even as three farm structures burned, underscoring growing strain on rural volunteer fire departments.
