LCS board OKs 2026-27 budget (nwestiowa.com) — Le Mars Community School District has approved its 2026-27 budget, including an $83.2 million total spending plan and a slightly lower $11.57 per $1,000 property tax levy. Despite only a small increase in state funding due to lower enrollment, the district will add three teaching positions while carefully managing operating fund balances through June 2027.

Song about 8-year-old hits high note with Le Mars family (siouxcityjournal.com) — An 8-year-old Le Mars boy, Mason Silverthorn, turned his experience living with a prosthetic leg into a book that inspired a custom song. A Morningside University student set his story to music, which the Northwest Iowa Singers will perform later this month, highlighting Mason’s resilience and creativity in his Le Mars home.
   

3. Gaul honored at 2026 Iowa Rural Summit (klem1410.com) — Le Mars residents may be proud to know community development director Mark Gaul has received the Rand Fisher Rural Leadership Award from the Iowa Rural Development Council. Honored at the 2026 Iowa Rural Summit in Dubuque, Gaul was recognized for two decades of work strengthening Sheldon, Orange City, and especially Le Mars through careful planning, inclusive engagement, and collaboration between public and private partners.
   

4. After 2 years, Brandon Vander Sluis is back in the circle (ktiv.com) — Le Mars native Brandon Vander Sluis is back throwing shot put for the University of South Dakota after a year-long battle with testicular cancer and multiple surgeries. Supported by family and teammates, he recently won the Sioux City Relays with a 60-foot-plus throw and is now chasing NCAA regional qualification and school records.
