Nebraska man arrested and charged with attempted murder in Plymouth County (ktiv.com) — Le Mars police responded to Floyd Valley Healthcare after an April assault, leading to an Omaha man being charged with attempted murder tied to an incident at a home on 2nd Ave. SW. Court documents describe choking that left the victim nearly unconscious, and the suspect is now held in Plymouth County Jail on $50,000 cash bond with a preliminary hearing set. 
2. City budget to add $13.5M (nwestiowa.com) — Le Mars residents could see major changes as the city moves to amend its budget by $13.45 million for water and wastewater upgrades and new housing land, with a public hearing set for Tuesday, May 19. Council members also discussed future space for the Le Mars Public Library, approved liquor licenses for several local venues, and advanced regional hazard mitigation planning that affects Plymouth County communities.
3. Municipal Park improvements moving ahead (nwestiowa.com) — Le Mars is moving ahead with more than $7 million in upgrades to Municipal Park, adding new tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness court, expanded banquet hall, and more. Funded jointly by LOSST revenue and the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation, construction is expected to start in July and wrap up by October 2027, as part of a broader citywide parks plan.
4. Le Mars girls golf wins 2026 MRAC Girls Golf Tournament (klem1410.com) — Le Mars Community’s girls golf team just captured the 2026 MRAC title, shooting 356 in Sioux City and earning multiple all-conference honors. With momentum building, the Bulldogs head to Green Valley in Sioux City Monday, then to Spencer next week for the Class 3A regional meet, where Le Mars golfers will try to extend their postseason run.
5. Barn fires in Iowa kill hundreds of hogs, destroy farm buildings (agdaily.com) — Firefighters from Le Mars were called in to help battle a major hog barn fire in rural Plymouth County that killed about 300 hogs and destroyed the building, while protecting nearby propane tanks and equipment. In a separate north-central Iowa blaze, crews saved a family home and most livestock even as three farm structures burned, underscoring growing strain on rural volunteer fire departments.
