The City of Marion partnered with Waters Edge Aquatic Design to conduct an Outdoor Aquatic Center Feasibility Study. The study evaluated the condition of the existing Marion Swimming Pool and collected the community’s preferences, needs and priorities for outdoor swimming. The final report was presented to Marion City Council in August and includes a conceptual design and recommended site to be located in the south part of Marion, off of 35th Street.

The plan calls for an outdoor aquatic center that includes a lazy river with three different slides, a leisure pool, a wave pool, a 25-yard lap pool with a ninja warrior obstacle course, and a diving well that features a one-meter board and three-meter platform. The project is estimated to be between $22 and $26 million with construction anticipated in 2026.
The existing Willowood Pool was deemed an unfit location for a new pool due to the amount of space within the park, future encroachment on neighbors and the increase of activity and traffic in the area. As part of the plan to sunset the existing pool, the Parks and Recreation Department would work with the neighborhood to develop a Willowood Master Park Plan
