📰 News we're reading
• Marion shop named a finalist in Iowa small business competition (kcrg.com) — A beloved Uptown Marion baby boutique, The Purple Wagon, is now a finalist for a $25,000 Main Street Iowa small business prize after expanding into the former Maid-Rite building on 7th Avenue. The move revived a long-vacant corner and gives the shop room to grow with local families. Owners will pitch their growth plans to judges in Osceola on October 5.
• Marion man found not guilty of murdering son seeking outside mental health evaluation (kcrg.com) — A Marion man previously found not guilty by reason of insanity in his son's death is asking for an outside mental health evaluation from a Chicago doctor instead of relying solely on Cherokee Mental Health Institute staff. State officials argue he already had that chance, while his legal team says an independent exam is vital to deciding whether he remains involuntarily hospitalized.
