• Mason City woman charged with fatally striking bicyclist sentenced to five years (mystar106.com) — A Mason City driver has been sentenced to five years in prison for a 2024 crash on Plymouth Road that led to the death of local bicyclist Jennifer Buls-Vrba. The now-19-year-old pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors said she was using a handheld device while driving. A motion has been filed asking the judge to reconsider the sentence. 
• Cerro Gordo supervisors approve $757K bridge contract, budget appropriations and Rockwell roads building bid schedule at June 22 meeting (northiowatoday.com) — Cerro Gordo County supervisors in Mason City approved major fund transfers, a $45.9 million FY 2027 appropriation plan, and a $757,101 bridge contract on 150th Street. They also set July bid and hearing dates for a new Rockwell Secondary Roads building, and authorized temporary closures on 275th Street for airport events, all from their brief June 22 meeting at the courthouse in Mason City.
