• Trial begins for Iowa man claiming wrongful arrest (kcrg.com) — A Newton resident’s federal civil trial is underway over a 2022 traffic stop where he says he was wrongly arrested for intoxicated driving despite later tests showing no alcohol or drugs. The case focuses on actions by a Newton police officer and could influence how future traffic stops and probable-cause decisions are handled locally. 
• Republicans want Brandon Talsma and Thad Nearmyer on the ballot (newtondailynews.com) — Jasper County Republicans have chosen to keep Supervisors Thad Nearmyer and Brandon Talsma on the November ballot, with each winning more than 1,700 primary votes. Speaking with Newton News, both incumbents said they want to continue serving and keeping Jasper County a place where local families, including those in Newton, want to stay.
• Brodersen's home run powers Newton softball past Eagles (newtondailynews.com) — Newton High’s softball team picked up a big road win, edging Pella Christian 2-1 thanks to Sloan Brodersen’s two-run homer and a game-saving throw from Mack Sims. The Cardinals also dropped a doubleheader to ranked Norwalk, with coach Kory Leiker stressing that the tough Little Hawkeye Conference losses are valuable learning experiences for his Newton squad.
