• NCSD teachers participate in Iowa STEM Teacher Externships (newtondailynews.com) — Two Newton Community School District teachers are spending the summer in STEM externships, bringing real-world science and conservation experience back to Newton classrooms. One is working with Des Moines’ forestry division, while another partners with Jasper County Conservation and the new Dana King Ceretti Environmental Education Center to support camps and nature programs that benefit local students and families. 
• Doreen Kay Geneser (newtondailynews.com) — Longtime Newton resident Doreen Kay Geneser, who raised four children here and was active in local community events and charities, has passed away at age 89. She later spent three decades in Naples, Florida, before returning to Iowa this year; a private family memorial will be held in Florida at a later date.
