📰 News we're reading

• IGL Chamber Can Trailers Are Back (exploreokoboji.com) — Can donation trailers are back to help fund this year’s Iowa Great Lakes 4th of July fireworks, an event many Okoboji residents enjoy. New volunteers stepped up so trailers are now set at the chamber office in Arnolds Park, the former Oak Hill Outdoor lot near Milford, and Consumer’s Lumber in Spirit Lake, giving locals several convenient drop-off spots.

• Proven Projects, Growing Opportunities: REAP Projects in Action (iowadnr.gov) — Okoboji will host a major REAP regional meeting on July 23 at Maser Monarch Lodge, inviting residents from Dickinson County and surrounding counties to help shape future conservation and recreation projects. Attendees can learn how REAP funding works, see successful local projects, share ideas on a “Citizen Idea Wall,” and elect delegates who will carry regional priorities to the statewide REAP Congress in August.

• Grant awarded to local organization to restore final two Abbie Gardner Paintings (ktiv.com) — A local Questers chapter has secured an international grant to restore the final two paintings telling Abbie Gardner’s Spirit Lake Massacre survival story at the Arnolds Park cabin visitor center. The artwork will be removed after this tourist season, restored by a specialist restorer, and returned by May 2027, with organizers encouraging residents to compare the paintings before and after the work.
