• College Notes: June 1, 2026 (dglobe.com) — Two Spirit Lake students are being recognized for strong college academics this spring, with Veda Danbom honored on Kirkwood Community College’s Dean’s List and Tim Soper named to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Dean’s List. The roundup also notes similar achievements by students from nearby Iowa and Minnesota communities. 
• Grant awarded to local organization to restore final two Abbie Gardner Paintings (ktiv.com) — Local history buffs will soon see the final two Abbie Gardner paintings from the Spirit Lake Massacre story restored for display at the Abbie Gardner Cabin Visitor Center. A new grant to the Okoboji Queen Chapter of Questers will fund the work, with the paintings taken down after this tourist season and the restoration expected to be finished by May 2027.
• Bloomingdale falls to Ollenburg in House District 60 GOP race, Hermanson wins GOP nomination in House 59 (kgloam.com) — Spirit Lake residents will keep Dave Rowley as their state senator, after he narrowly defeated challenger Stacy Besch in the Republican primary for Senate District 5, which includes Dickinson County and surrounding areas. The article also recaps several other north Iowa legislative primary results and sets up November matchups.
