Deadline Approaching for Artists Interested in West Des Moines Public Art Exhibit

The exhibition will focus on a philosophy of that represent living a healthier and happier life.

A news release from West Des Moines Parks and Recreation:

Iowa artists are invited to submit their ideas/concepts for a temporary public art exhibit that will be unveiled this summer by the West Des Moines Public Arts Commission. 

The inaugural event will feature up to 12 sculptures around the City/Schools Campus pond beginning in July and running through the end of September.  Artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for their work, and have their creations temporarily displayed for the public to enjoy.

"We are excited to introduce our community to public art," said Commission Chairperson Brenda Sedlacek. "The variety of artistic works on display will appeal to a broad range of people and will likely engage and stimulate them to enjoy art in new and exciting ways."

The exhibition will focus on a philosophy of that represent living a healthier and happier life, and artists are asked that their creations reflect one of the following categories:

  • Move on your own;
  • Eat well;
  • The right perspective; and
  • Be present. 

Interested artists should call (515) 222-3444 or email todd.seaman@wdm.iowa.gov to receive a copy of the artist application.  Applications must be submitted by February 28. 2013 and will be reviewed by a section panel. Up to 12 artists could be chosen for the exhibit.
