• Grand Avenue construction causes school traffic now for safer crossings later (kcci.com) — Expect ongoing lane reductions and detours around Sacred Heart School and Stilwell Junior High as West Des Moines upgrades Grand Avenue near 16th Street for safer student crossings. The city is widening the road, adding a pedestrian hybrid beacon, and installing larger storm sewers, with most work scheduled through November and final restoration into spring 2027. Families are urged to stay patient and follow updated pickup and drop-off routes.
