Luther College Trumpet Choir to perform in Clive
The Luther College Trumpet Choir will perform at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive on October 20.
The Luther College Trumpet Choir, one of the brass ensembles which represent the music program of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, will give a performance at 7 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa.
The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Cord, professor of music at Luther College, plays a variety of instrumental music from baroque to the contemporary. “Imagine multitudes of glorious trumpets in an energetic performance,” stated Dr. David Johnson, the director of music and the arts at Faith Lutheran Church.
To get to Faith Lutheran Church, located in the western part of the Des Moines, Iowa, area, take Interstate-235 to the Valley West Drive exit (Exit 1). Go north on Valley West Drive to University Avenue, then head west. Go beyond the K-Mart store. Faith Lutheran Church is on the north side of University Avenue by the Clive water tower. Parking is available in the church’s lot, immediately to the north and east of the church building.
Soli Deo Musica is Faith Lutheran Church’s fine arts mission to the Des Moines area. Other performances this year include a concert of Christmas music featuring contemporary women composers such as Katherine Dienes, Libby Larson and Emma Lou Deimer, slated for the evening of December 22; pianists Dr. David Piersel and David Liljedahl performing on the afternoon of February 15, 2015; and a performance of Renee Clausen’s A New Creation, featuring the Faith Lutheran Chancel Choir, local soloists and instrumentalists from the Des Moines area on the afternoon of May 17, 2015.
