‘Marilyn’ and a Cast of New Characters on West Des Moines’ Top Redbox Rentals

At least one film that made it to West Des Moines' Top 10 rentals suggests the kiddos were home for spring break. See what surged to No. 1.

Puss in Boots, Hugo and The Three Musketeers fell off the list. Guess what films took their place. And remember, it was spring break.

1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – A journalist is hired by one of Sweden's richest industrialists to investigate the disappearance of his niece 40 years ago. With a female hacker assisting him, they uncover a secret history of murder and sexual abuse that puts their lives in danger. Redbox advises the handwritten look on the disc of this movie is legitimate and is intended to look like a burned DVD. Rated R for brutal violent content including rape and torture, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, and language. Play the trailer.

2. Tower Heist – Queens native Josh Kovaks has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh's building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage. With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh's crew turns to petty crook Slide to plan the nearly impossible...to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur's guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they've been casing the place for years, they just didn't know it. Rated PG-13 for language and sexual content. 3. Young Adult – Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart. When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.

4. The Adventures of Tintin – The film is based on the comic strip "Tintin" and a series of books by George "Herge" Remi, about the fearless young reporter Tintin. Tintin is on the trail of a big story which leads him into a world of high adventure. When he and his friends find the directions to a sunken ship, they go off to find the treasure it contained and Tintin must face the notorious Red Rackham. Rated PG for adventure action violence, some drunkenness and brief smoking. Play the trailer.

5. Jack and Jill – Jack Sadelstein is a successful advertising executive in Los Angeles with a beautiful wife and kids, who dreads one event each year: the Thanksgiving visit of his identical twin sister Jill. Jill's neediness and passive-aggressiveness is maddening to Jack, turning his normally tranquil life upside down. Rated PG for crude material including suggestive references, language, comic violence and brief smoking. Play the trailer.

6. In Time – In the near future, people are immortal because the aging gene has been deactivated. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency. The rich can live forever, and the rest have to negotiate for their immortality. When a young man comes into a fortune of time, he ends up on the run from a corrupt force known as "time keepers." Rated PG-13 for violence, some sexuality and partial nudity, and brief strong language. Play the trailer.

7. Happy Feet Two – The most famous tap-dancing penguin, Mumble, returns along with the love of his life, Gloria, and their old friends Ramon and Lovelace. Mumble and Gloria now have a son, Erik, who is struggling to find his own particular talents in the Emperor Penguin world. But new dangers are threatening the penguin nation, and it's going to take everyone working - and dancing - together to save them. Rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril. Play the trailer.

8. Footloose (2011) – Ren McCormack is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel in the process. Rated PG-13 for some teen drug and alcohol use, sexual content, violence and language. Play the trailer.

9. My Week With Marilyn – Early in the summer of 1956, American film star Marilyn Monroe set foot on British soil for the first time. On honeymoon with her husband, the celebrated playwright Arthur Miller, Monroe came to England to shoot "The Prince and the Showgirl." That same summer, 23-year-old Colin Clark set foot on a film set for the first time in his life. Newly graduated from Oxford, Clark aspired to be a filmmaker and found a job as a lowly production hand on the set of "The Prince and the Showgirl." Forty years later, he recounted his experiences of the six-month shoot in a memoir entitled, "The Prince, the Showgirl and Me." But one week in Clark's account was missing. It wasn't until years later that Clark revealed why. In a follow-up memoir entitled, "My Week with Marilyn," he recounted the true story of one magical week he spent alone with the world's biggest star the week he spent with Marilyn. 10. The Muppets (2011) – On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary and Gary's girlfriend Mary from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. Rated PG for some mild rude humor. Play the trailer.
