West Des Moines Public Art Commission Seeks Iowa Artists to Create Sculptures
Sculptures in temporary installation should reflect Blue Zone philosophies.

The West Des Moines Public Art Commission is putting a call out to Iowa sculptors to submit ideas and concepts for a temporary public art exhibit to be unveiled this summer.
The inaugural event will feature up to 12 sculptures that will be installed around the city/school campus pond beginning in July. The installation will remain in place through September, according to a news release.
Artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for their work. Artists are asked to create sculptures that reflect their unique perspective of one of the four different principles of The Blue Zones health and wellbeing initiative.
“We are excited to introduce our community to public art,” Brenda Sedlacek, chairwoman of the Public Arts Commission, said in a news release. "The variety of artistic works on display will appeal to a broad range of people and will likely engage and stimulate them to enjoy art in new and exciting ways."
Applications are due Feb. 28 and will be reviewed by a selection panel. Up to 12 artists may be chosen for the exhibit.
Interested artists should contact Todd Seaman, recreation superintendent for West Des Moines Parks and Recreation at (515) 222-3444 or email him at todd.seaman@wdm.iowa.gov.
