Record 37 groups involved in Match Day 2026 (kvoe.com) — Emporia-area nonprofits are gearing up for Match Day 2026, with a record 37 groups set to benefit from donations funneled through the Emporia Community Foundation. Residents can give on Nov. 16, helping support organizations from Baby Closet of Emporia to Friends of the Emporia Public Library, with a public check presentation planned Dec. 1 at Flinthills Mall.

2. Lt. Governor Toland says Emporia is positioned for economic development opportunities despite recent setbacks (ransonfinancial.com) — State commerce chief David Toland met Monday with Emporia, Lyon County, and RDA leaders at the Trusler Business Center to map out new economic development opportunities after recent manufacturing losses. He says Emporia is well positioned for industry expansions, with state officials actively identifying local assets to pitch to prospective employers, signaling potential new jobs and investment for the community.

EHS Baseball Slugs Way to Sweep of Topeka (kvoe.com) — Emporia High’s baseball team gave local fans plenty to cheer about with back-to-back 12-2 wins over Topeka High at Soden’s Grove, powered by big bats from Oliver Kline and Colton Eubanks. Strong complete-game pitching from Eubanks and Eluterio Trujillo helped the Spartans finish Centennial League play 3-7 and move to 10-12 heading into Friday’s finale at Wichita Southeast.

4. Yuri Hauswald became a pro mountain biker at age 36. By 45, he was a gravel biking legend. (singletracks.com) — Gravel legend Yuri Hauswald is using this year’s Unbound Gravel 200 to try to raise $50,000 for a new bike skills park and safer cycling routes in Emporia. In a wide-ranging interview, he explains how he fell in love with Emporia, why he keeps returning, and how the “Chase the Race” challenge will turn every rider he passes into more support for local kids on bikes.
