Man sentenced for 2024 KCK fatal shooting of 17-year-old boy (fox4kc.com) — A man has been sentenced to just over 10 years in prison for the 2024 killing of a 17-year-old Kansas City resident found in a car near North 2nd Street and Quindaro Boulevard. The case involved a later police standoff near McGrew Grove and Quindaro when officers tried to serve a warrant, and the original murder charge was reduced to involuntary manslaughter.
   

2. Bonner Springs residents, businesses excited for revitalization of downtown (kshb.com) — Downtown Bonner Springs is set for a major boost, with 92 new apartments, at least five new restaurants and shops, and a revamped Centennial Park featuring a splash pad and farmer’s market. City leaders say these projects, tied to Destination KCK and nearby Chiefs stadium and Mattel Theme Park plans in Wyandotte County, will upgrade utilities and draw more visitors to Kansas City’ western edge.
   

3. Anti-trafficking advocates compile resources to help victims ahead of the World Cup in Kansas City (kmbc.com) — With Kansas City preparing to host World Cup matches, local nonprofit ReHope and law enforcement are ramping up efforts to spot and support human trafficking victims. Advocates are training people to recognize warning signs and assembling “blue bag” kits with essentials and safe housing connections to help survivors quickly exit dangerous situations during the influx of visitors.
   

4. Kansas City police say it will be 'all hands on deck' for the World Cup (kmbc.com) — As Kansas City nears its first World Cup match, police say it will be “all hands on deck,” with nearly 1,200 officers on duty and extra regional and federal support. KCPD leaders told South Kansas City Alliance members they’ll maintain normal neighborhood coverage while flooding match days and fan events with visible patrols to keep residents and visitors safe.
   

5. Police: Missing Kansas City man may need medical attention (kmbc.com) — Kansas City police are asking for help finding 25-year-old Francisco Maya, who family members say was last seen Monday afternoon near 4th Street and Forest Avenue in Kansas City. Relatives fear for his well-being, and officers say he may need medical attention, urging anyone who spots him to immediately call 911 or the KCPD Missing Persons Unit.
