1. KU Student Affairs announces return of Homecoming Parade (ku.edu) — KU is bringing back its Homecoming parade to Jayhawk Boulevard on the Lawrence campus on Oct. 23, kicking off the 2026 Homecoming weekend. Student groups and university organizations can apply by Oct. 9 to participate, and community members are invited to watch and join the celebration. Local businesses can also get involved through sponsorships.

2. Lawrence police video shows head-on crash into patrol vehicle: ‘He rammed me' (kansascity.com) — Lawrence police released dashcam and bodycam video of a late-night incident where a 17-year-old allegedly drove head-on into a patrol vehicle after a domestic conflict involving butane huffing. The teen was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, then booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center on aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and other charges. No other injuries were reported.

3. City Commission OKs purchasing former Journal-World printing plant; it could become a City Hall annex (ljworld.com) — Lawrence city commissioners have unanimously agreed to buy the former Journal-World printing plant across from City Hall for $2.1 million, with plans to turn it into a City Hall annex. The move aims to relieve cramped conditions, improve public spaces like Municipal Court and the commission room, and potentially create a broader community hub on the north end of downtown.

4. Lawrence nonprofit among 27 worldwide organizations awarded FIFA education grant (fox4kc.com) — Lawrence-based nonprofit SparkWheel has been awarded a $250,000 FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund grant, making it one of just 27 organizations selected worldwide. The funding will help expand its work placing support coordinators in schools to tackle barriers like food insecurity, mental health, and transportation for students in Kansas City metro schools, with leaders expecting long-lasting benefits beyond the 2026 World Cup.
