Over the next two decades, special sales tax districts could fund "complete streets," road upgrades, and a new community gathering space, transforming the College Boulevard and Lamar corridor into a dense live-work hub.
2. Student Fellowship Opportunities (nyu.edu) — Law students in Overland Park can apply for the ACLU of Kansas Bonney Legal Summer Fellowship, which is accepting rolling applications. The broader list also highlights many other paid and unpaid legal fellowships nationwide, with deadlines stretching into early 2027, giving aspiring attorneys time to plan applications and gain experience.
3. Firefighter taken to hospital after Overland Park house fire (fox4kc.com) — Overland Park firefighters battled a late-night house fire near 146th and Nieman that sent one firefighter to the hospital in stable condition and displaced two adults. Crews from Overland Park and Olathe needed about 90 minutes and a second alarm to control heavy smoke and flames, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the blaze.
4. Illinois basketball continues poking around Kansas with offer to elite point guard Harper Winter (writingillini.com) — An Overland Park standout guard, Harper Winter of Blue Valley North, has picked up a scholarship offer from Illinois women's basketball as a top-12 national prospect in the 2029 class. Winter, already holding major offers and ranked No. 1 in Kansas, averaged strong all-around numbers as a freshman and is emerging as one of the metro's most coveted recruits.
