With rezoning now recommended 11-0, the project heads to the Oct. 5 City Council meeting, where its mix of housing, big-box retail, and neighborhood amenities could significantly reshape the 167th and U.S. 69 corridor.

2. Man who fled country after deadly Overland Park crash to serve 10-year sentence (kshb.com) — A driver who caused a fatal 2021 crash at 127th and Quivira in Overland Park has been sentenced to just over 10 years in prison after fleeing to Mexico and being captured by U.S. Marshals. The case involved the death of 75-year-old Barbara Patterson and a lengthy manhunt after the defendant skipped a Johnson County court hearing.

Fire displaces residents from units at Overland Park apartment complex (kctv5.com) — An afternoon fire at an apartment building near 64th and Metcalf in Overland Park forced residents from nine units to leave after power was shut off for safety. Firefighters quickly knocked down a small exterior blaze, found no injuries, and called in the Red Cross to help displaced tenants while investigators work to determine the cause.

Wichita's Regina Klenjoski Dance Company premieres 'Adieu' at New Dance Partners in Overland Park (shoutwichita.com) — Wichita's Regina Klenjoski Dance Company is bringing a world-premiere contemporary dance work to Overland Park as part of New Dance Partners at Johnson County Community College's Midwest Trust Center on Sept. 18–19. Local audiences can see four brand-new pieces, including this collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Katarzyna Skarpetowska, showcasing professional dancers and nationally recognized creative talent on a regional stage.
