📰 News we're reading
1. Popular Kansas City hand roll bar Kata Nori coming to Overland Park (johnsoncountypost.com) — Overland Park diners will soon get a new sushi option when popular Kansas City hand roll bar Kata Nori opens later this fall in the former André's Confiserie space at Hawthorne Plaza on 119th and Roe. The Johnson County outpost will add table seating and some cooked entrees but keep the same made-to-order hand rolls and fresh, air-shipped seafood experience fans know from the Crossroads location.

2. Metcalf Avenue bridge repairs in Mission and northern OP delayed by months (johnsoncountypost.com) — If you drive Metcalf in northern Overland Park, expect lane closures and delays by the Johnson Drive bridge to last until spring 2027 as KDOT's $2.15 million repair project runs months behind schedule. Phased work will eventually narrow traffic to single head‑to‑head lanes and temporarily close key ramps, while a separate Johnson Drive rebuild in Mission adds to the congestion.

3. Overland Park boba shop to close and transition into mobile business (kansascity.com) — Overland Park boba fans should know Chatime at 10150-A W. 119th Street will close its brick-and-mortar shop on October 13 as the owners pivot to a mobile truck or trailer launching in spring 2027. The same drinks, name, and menu will continue through pop-ups and private events, with the current storefront serving as a commercial kitchen until the lease ends.

4. No injuries reported after vehicle struck Overland Park grocery store (kansascity.com) — Overland Park residents may have noticed emergency activity at the Price Chopper at 8686 Antioch Road Thursday morning, where a vehicle struck the store but fortunately caused no injuries. Police say an elderly driver and passenger were unhurt, and the grocery remained open Thursday afternoon while the incident was handled.

5. VISION 2027 Training Expo Theme (motor.com) — A major national automotive training conference is headed to the Overland Park Convention Center and Sheraton Hotel in March 2027, bringing technicians, shop owners, and educators together for several days of classes and networking. Organizers say the "No Excuses. Just Train." theme is meant to push busy professionals to prioritize ongoing education, with technical and management sessions plus expo events and social gatherings.
