• Jock's Nitch and Pitt State Athletics partner to provide shoes for Crawford County students (fourstateshomepage.com) — Hundreds of local kids in Crawford County will soon get brand-new shoes thanks to a one-time partnership between Pittsburg State Athletics and longtime Pittsburg retailer Jock’s Nitch. About 450 pairs, worth nearly $27,000, are on order now and will be delivered to area schools at the beginning of June to support students and families in need.
   

• Pittsburg State Track & Field sees 51 athletes qualify for NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship (fourstateshomepage.com) — Pittsburg State track and field is sending an impressive 51 Gorillas to the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Emporia later this month, following a sweep of the MIAA titles. With 26 women and 25 men competing May 21–23, the men are chasing a fifth straight national title while the women look to build on last year’s third-place finish.
   

• Kentucky lowers fuel tax as trucking groups oppose federal fuel tax suspension (overdriveonline.com) — Kansas investigators are reviewing a police shooting after a stolen semi-truck, reported traveling northbound from Pittsburg and driving into oncoming traffic, was chased into Bourbon County and stopped when deputies shot the suspect. The broader report also covers fuel-tax debates and trucking industry news that could indirectly affect freight moving through southeast Kansas.
