• Child dies from injuries after Overland Park apartment fire (kmbc.com) — A child has died and another remains hospitalized after a fast-moving fire early Saturday at Overland Park’s Sheridan Ridge Apartments, where Shawnee firefighters assisted neighboring crews. Several adults and children were rescued from the burning building, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the blaze. 
• Danette Jaye Rupp (johnsoncountypost.com) — Family and friends in Shawnee are mourning Danette Jaye Rupp, a longtime Sprint technical advisor and devoted mother whose daughter lives in Shawnee. Services are set for Wednesday, April 22, in Gardner, with burial in Eudora and memorial contributions directed to Children’s Mercy.
