Sigma Gamma Rho Honors Jackson Mortuary's Century of Service (communityvoiceks.com) — A century-old Wichita institution, Jackson Mortuary, was recently honored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority for 100 years of service to local families. Sorority members hosted an intimate celebration at Wichita State Connect, sharing stories and presenting a keepsake canvas recognizing five generations of Black family leadership and the mortuary's deep roots in Wichita's Black history and community life. 
2. Wichita schools, teachers union reach tentative contract deal (kwch.com) — Wichita Public Schools and the United Teachers of Wichita have a tentative 2026-27 contract that boosts total compensation and health benefits and adds protections and planning time for staff. Teachers could vote as soon as next week, with changes affecting salary, insurance contributions, hard‑to‑fill positions, and expectations like mandatory attendance at high school graduations.
3. Wichita City Council votes to extend control of Crown Uptown: what happens next? (kwch.com) — Wichita's City Council has extended city control of the Crown Uptown Theatre until January, temporarily blocking the owner's push to demolish the historic venue. Neighborhood leaders and preservation advocates now have a 180‑day window to negotiate a sale, rally public support, and explore turning the theater into a nonprofit‑run community asset.
4. Man, 61, dead after possible electrocution at Wichita construction site (kansas.com) — A 61-year-old worker died Tuesday after a suspected electrocution at a Riverside neighborhood construction site near the Wichita Art Museum, where he was found unconscious in a pipe he'd been welding. Wichita police say the man, subcontracted through the city, died at a local hospital, while another worker was also injured as investigators review what happened.
