1. Ky. Wesleyan offering transfer options for Oakland City students (the-messenger.com) — Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro is launching a special Transfer Week June 1–5 to help Oakland City University students continue their education with minimal disruption. Advisors will offer in-person and Zoom appointments, same-day credit evaluations, and financial aid estimates, and Wesleyan will match Oakland City students’ aid packages up to $25,000 for fall 2026 enrollees.

2. Kiwanis Club of Owensboro hosts 12th annual Walk of Honor Display (tristatehomepage.com) — Downtown Owensboro’s Daviess County Courthouse lawn is now filled with 100 American flags honoring local heroes, sponsored by residents and organized by the Kiwanis Club of Owensboro. The Walk of Honor Display, a key fundraiser for the club, will stay up through July 4 as the community reflects on service, sacrifice, and America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

Owensboro Lions Club donates $5,000 each to Wendell Foster, Puzzle Pieces (owensborotimes.com) — Owensboro families connected to Wendell Foster and Puzzle Pieces will see new support after the Owensboro Lions Club donated $5,000 to each organization this week. The club also highlighted its growing Soap Box Derby program at Ben Hawes Park and is seeking more young racers, sponsors, and volunteers ahead of the June 13 local race and additional events later this year.

University of the Cumberlands Kappa Mu Epsilon Induction Ceremony Recognizes New Mathematics Honor Society Members (ucumberlands.edu) — An Owensboro student, Caleb O’Riley Poe, has been inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society at University of the Cumberlands, recognizing his strong academic performance in math. He joins seven other high-achieving students honored in the Kentucky Beta Chapter’s spring 2026 ceremony, which also selected new chapter officers for next year.

Kentucky's champion sugar maple removed after centuries overlooking Owensboro's Littlewood neighborhood (owensborotimes.com) — Owensboro’s Littlewood neighborhood has lost a beloved landmark: Kentucky’s champion sugar maple, a nearly 300-year-old tree that towered 80–90 feet and anchored countless family memories. Longtime residents Phil and Nancy Malone removed it after storm damage and internal decay made it unsafe, and they’re now considering what to plant around its massive root system.
