Hurricane Harvey Louisiana: Vermillion Parish Schools Close

The school system said officials will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Harvey. An evaluation will be made Thursday about Friday.

ABBEVILLE, LA — Heavy rain forced all Vermilion Parish schools to close Tuesday, and officials say they'll stay that way Wednesday and Thursday, as the southwestern part of the state is battered by the remnants of Hurricane Harvey.

The school system said on its website that officials will monitor Tropical Storm Harvey. An evaluation will be made Thursday on whether to open Friday. There are 20 schools in the system.

Harvey forced hundreds of people to evacuate from a neighborhood in Lake Charles on Monday night, sometimes in chest-deep water.
