Escaped Louisiana Inmate Killed Warden's Stepdaughter Before Death: Authorities

Officials say Deltra Henderson went missing from the David Wade Correctional Center and was found hiding in a home on prison property.

HOMER, LA — An escaped Louisiana inmate abducted and killed an assistant warden's stepdaughter before he was found dead in a standoff with police, authorities said.

Deltra Henderson, 39, walked away from his prison assignment Thursday, stole a car and kidnapped 19-year-old Amanda Carney, the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement Friday.

The teen's body was discovered near where Henderson crashed the car, the sheriff's office said. The statement doesn't say how she died. Henderson is believed to have killed the teen, state corrections department authorities said in a statement Friday.
