Mayor Broome Addresses Domestic Violence Issues In Baton Rouge Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Baton Rouge, La. – March 27, 2020 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and District Attorney Hillar Moore presented resources Friday for domestic violence issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic violence issues may increase in frequency, intensity and case number as a result of the closure of workplaces and schools in our area.

“Spending days or weeks with an abusive partner or family member opens the door for immense physical and emotional trauma,” said Mayor Broome. “Unfortunately, this is the reality that COVID-19 presents to many of our neighbors, family and friends.”

Mayor Broome was joined by public safety officials and Baton Rouge-based non-profits to educate the community on resources for victims and survivors of domestic violence. District Attorney Hillar Moore presented his annual Report on Domestic Violence in the City-Parish.
