• Benton's Carson Bryant honored with scholarship (shreveportbossierjournal.com) — A Benton High School graduate and Benton resident, Carson Bryant, has been awarded an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program, presented by Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington. Now studying biology at Louisiana Tech, Bryant was selected for his academic performance, leadership, and character, with local law enforcement emphasizing the importance of investing in students from communities like Benton. 
• Christopher Wade Maness (press-herald.com) — Family and friends in Athens and nearby communities, including relatives in Benton, are mourning the passing of 65-year-old outdoorsman and retired union steward Christopher Wade Maness. A memorial celebration is planned for October 31 at Craighead Cemetery near Athens, with a luncheon beforehand at First Presbyterian Church of Athens, and guests encouraged to wear camouflage in his honor.
