• Ochsner schedules October blood drives across region (neworleanscitybusiness.com) — St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Chalmette will host an Ochsner blood drive from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, with all blood types welcome and special need for platelets and Type O. Throughout October, Ochsner is running similar drives across the region, offering donors a Halloween T‑shirt and entry into a drawing for New Orleans Saints home game tickets.
   

• Chalmette man convicted of triggering fatal 7th Ward shooting after bar fight (nola.com) — A man from Chalmette has been convicted of second-degree murder for fatally shooting a father of six after a bar fight spilled into a 7th Ward street in 2024. Jurors viewed video of the confrontation and shooting before returning the guilty verdict, and the defendant now faces a mandatory life sentence at a November hearing in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
   

• ‘Wait for the clock to run out': Louisiana offshore wind energy leaders look beyond Trump (veritenews.org) — Nunez Community College in Chalmette has launched a two‑year turbine technician program to prepare local students for offshore wind jobs, even as national policies have slowed the industry. Louisiana wind leaders say they’re focused on preserving training programs, manufacturing capacity, and internships so the state can quickly rebound when federal support for offshore wind returns after the current administration ends.
