2. Ochsner Lafayette General announces Broussard ER (katc.com) — A new Ochsner Lafayette General offsite emergency center is under construction in Broussard, positioned as a key gateway facility for residents in southern Lafayette Parish and nearby communities. Opening by summer 2027 on Ambassador Caffery near the Highway 90 interchange, the 14,000-square-foot ER will offer exam bays, imaging, and lab services while also bringing new jobs and economic development to the corridor.

3. Council Preview: Changes to flood zones, development code (thecurrentla.com) — Lafayette city and parish councils are set to review major changes to flood zones, drainage rules, and the development code that could affect where and how new homes and businesses are built. Members will also consider a repetitive flooding loss study and a cost-sharing agreement with St. Landry Parish to improve Mendell Road. A joint council meeting aims to streamline discussion of these flood and development proposals.

4. Lafayette mayor-president vetoes $500K for downtown redevelopment project (kadn.com) — Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet has vetoed a $500,000 funding plan for the Downtown Development Authority that aimed to tackle vacant properties, parking, and connectivity downtown. She argues the agreement overreaches the DDA’s authority and needs more legal review, while DDA leaders say they’re hopeful for a compromise. The City Council could still override the veto with its previous 4–1 vote.

5. La. escapee fatally shot after firing on officers during pursuit (corrections1.com) — An escaped inmate from Opelousas was fatally shot after allegedly firing at officers during a multi-agency pursuit through Lafayette Parish that ended on North Wilderness Trail near Carencro. Louisiana State Police say a sheriff’s K-9 was also shot but is in stable condition, and no other officers or bystanders were injured as the investigation continues.
