JEFFERSON, LA - The Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) has updated its hours of operation for the Animal Shelters, located at 2701 Lapalco Blvd. in Harvey and #1 Humane Way in Harahan.

Both Shelters will now be open to the public every Tuesday – Saturday from 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Shelters will be closed to the public on Sundays and Mondays; however adoption appointments can still be scheduled during this time with the JPAWS Adoption/Foster Coordinator Tiffanie Stinson by emailing tstinson@jeffparish.net. Rabies vaccination days will take place every Tuesday at the West Bank Shelter and every Wednesday at the East Bank Shelter from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

JPAWS will not accept any owner surrenders until the end of August. The Animal Control Humane Division will continue to respond to bites, cruelties, injured/sick animals and emergencies. Animal Control can be reached at 504-349-5536 during regular business hours or 504-554-4744 after hours. These temporary changes in the hours of operation are due to current staffing shortages.
