• Oil and gas leasing activity expands across Natchitoches Parish (natchitochesparishjournal.com) — Oil and gas leasing is ramping up across Natchitoches Parish, with 122 leases and rights-of-way filed in July and new activity stretching from west of Ashland to north of Provencal and along key local highways. Clerk of Court David Stamey says more companies are entering the parish, and landowners are urged to seek expert advice before signing mineral or seismic agreements that could affect long-term property rights.
   

• Grant Parish man charged with first degree murder in connection with Campti homicide (natchitochesparishjournal.com) — Natchitoches Parish authorities have arrested an 18-year-old Grant Parish man in connection with a fatal shooting that began as a medical emergency call near Clarence and was later tied to a crime scene in Campti. Detectives recovered a suspected handgun, executed multiple search warrants, and continue to seek information as the investigation into the woman’s death remains active.
   

• Senior nursing students prepare for patient care through homelessness outreach - Northwestern State University of Louisiana (nsula.edu) — Northwestern State University nursing students, based at the Cenla campus of the Natchitoches institution, are gaining real-world experience by supporting people experiencing homelessness in downtown Alexandria. By sharing water and resource information, they’re learning to connect vulnerable residents with services they may one day help coordinate for patients across central Louisiana.
