New fire station coming to Natchitoches after 20-year wait (dailydispatch.com) — A long-awaited new fire station is finally being built in Natchitoches, positioned along University Parkway to cut response times across key routes like MLK and Texas Street. City leaders say the project, expected to finish by summer 2027, represents a major investment in public safety for residents and firefighters alike.

November 2026 Election Qualifying Window (natchitochesparishjournal.com) — Natchitoches Parish voters face a packed November 3 ballot, with every School Board seat, key judicial and law enforcement posts, and several town and village offices up for election. Candidate qualifying runs August 5–7 at the Clerk of Court, and residents have October deadlines and late-October early voting to get registered and cast ballots.

Demons for Recovery & United Against Fentanyl to host 'Walk for Lives' in Natchitoches on July 11 - Northwestern State University of Louisiana (nsula.edu) — Residents are invited to join the “Walk for Lives” fentanyl awareness event at Northwestern State University’s Seven Oaks Stage in Natchitoches on Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk will honor loved ones lost to opioids, offer resources from mental health and rehab providers, and encourage community-wide education, prevention, and recovery support.

Dwyer sets school record, qualifies for nationals in 400M dash (cenlanow.com) — Northwestern State sprinter Rushana Dwyer, competing for the Natchitoches-based university, shattered the school 400-meter record again and punched her ticket to NCAA nationals with a 50.81 in Kentucky. Her performance, along with a strong 4x400 relay and discus showings, highlights a standout week for the Lady Demons track and field program.
