New Iberia Funeral Home Ordered Vacated After Inspection (973thedawg.com) ā City officials in New Iberia ordered Fields Funeral Home to vacate its building after inspectors reported serious sanitation problems and unsuitable operating conditions, including four bodies found inside. State regulators are now investigating the funeral homeās practices, and families who recently used the facility are being urged to contact state agencies with any concerns or questions.

2. False gunman report locks down New Iberia Medical Center (klfy.com) ā A false report of an armed gunman briefly put New Iberia Medical Centerās main campus on lockdown Tuesday morning, drawing a large police response. Officers quickly searched the hospital, confirmed the 911 call from a patient was unfounded, and stayed on scene with staff until issuing an all-clear and resuming normal operations.

3. Cazelot drags in a big limit after his last-minute decision to fish Hawg Fight (thedailyiberian.com) ā New Iberia angler Don Shoopman and his son Jacob narrowly missed third place in a tightly contested Hawg Fights bass tournament, finishing just 0.06 pounds behind the Youngsville team. The event at Bayou Benoit Landing drew 21 boats, with Parks fisherman Andre Cazelot winning thanks to a lastāminute decision to compete. Another tournament is set for May 20 at Lake Fausse Pointe.

4. Allain's initiative ushers in first-ever recreational alligator hunting season in La. (thedailyiberian.com) ā Hunters in Iberia Parish and around New Iberia could soon apply for Louisianaās first-ever recreational alligator season, with local properties falling into new harvest zones. Sen. Robert Allain IIIās bill passed unanimously and is backed by Wildlife and Fisheries leaders. A lottery system will issue limited tags, and written public comments are open through June 26, 2026.

5. 15-year journey ends with a college degree for determined Northwestern State graduate (thedailyiberian.com) ā A New Iberia native, Mitch Trahan, is finally earning his bachelorās degree in unified public safety administration from Northwestern State University after 15 years of balancing classes with work and family. His long journey, supported by his wife and children, reflects the perseverance many local working parents will recognize as he continues advancing in emergency and safety leadership roles.
