School Board to decide millage rates at this week's meeting (thedailyiberian.com) — Property tax rates that affect New Iberia and all of Iberia Parish are set to stay the same if the School Board approves Wednesday’s millage proposal. Board members will also consider doubling the capitalization threshold for equipment from $5,000 to $10,000 to match state guidelines. The public meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Jane Street office.

New Iberia council faces opposition on fire/police resolution (klfy.com) — New Iberia’s city council is weighing a controversial resolution that would cut employee representation on the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board to just one member, drawing strong pushback from officers and legal experts. Opponents argue the city has long denied police employees a legally required board seat and say leaders should instead hold an election to restore that representation. Council members from multiple districts say they plan to vote against the change.
   

3. GoFundMe for New Iberia hit-and-run victim's funeral costs (klfy.com) — Family and friends in New Iberia are raising money for the funeral of James “Blake” Buteaux, who was killed in a hit-and-run on LA 329 near Doc Road. Authorities say he was struck on April 17 and the driver left the scene, later being arrested on multiple charges. Loved ones describe Blake as gentle and stabilizing, and are asking the community for help with burial costs.
   

4. Sumrall's affinity to Arkansas River helps him finish 25th in 4th Elite tournament (thedailyiberian.com) — New Iberia bass pro Caleb Sumrall climbed to 25th place at the Bassmaster Elite event on Oklahoma’s Arkansas River, helping his push toward another Bassmaster Classic. He credits the river’s similarity to the Atchafalaya Basin near his New Iberia home, and his strong finish boosted him to 62nd in the Angler of the Year standings.
