Opponents argue the city has long denied police employees a legally required board seat and say leaders should instead hold an election to restore that representation. GoFundMe for New Iberia hit-and-run victim's funeral costs (klfy.com) — Family and friends in New Iberia are raising money for the funeral of James “Blake” Buteaux, who was killed in a hit-and-run on LA 329 near Doc Road. Authorities say he was struck on April 17 and the driver left the scene, later being arrested on multiple charges. Sumrall's affinity to Arkansas River helps him finish 25th in 4th Elite tournament (thedailyiberian.com) — New Iberia bass pro Caleb Sumrall climbed to 25th place at the Bassmaster Elite event on Oklahoma’s Arkansas River, helping his push toward another Bassmaster Classic. He credits the river’s similarity to the Atchafalaya Basin near his New Iberia home, and his strong finish boosted him to 62nd in the Angler of the Year standings.
