🌱 12-Year-Old Waves Gun At School Bus + Angola Transfer Delayed
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Hey, everybody. It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily — back in your inbox with all the most important things happening in town.I'll get right to it.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy with a thunderstorm. High: 84 Low: 76.
Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:
- A 12-year-old girl has been arrested after waving a gun outside an Alkali Academy school bus on Friday. Videos that have surfaced from the incident shows the girl getting into a fight on a bus after school with another girl. The girl then left the bus and returned with a firearm, which she waved around and while attempting to board the bus. The bus driver had closed the doors and refused to let her back in, at which point she left. The girl has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. (WWLTV.com)
- Governor Edwards expressed disappointment in the Louisiana Attorney General and the Louisiana Bond Commission for their efforts to pressure New Orleans' stance on abortion by withholding funding from the city after officials like Mayor Cantrell, the DA and NOPD claimed they wouldn't prosecute or enforce the new anti-abortion laws. Edwards said he felt it was "misguided to use the Bond Commission ... to send a political message." (FOX 8 Local First)
- After multiple fights and breakouts at the Bridge City Youth Center prompted the state to remodel elements of the facility, the fight to prevent 25 juvenile inmates from being housed in the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola, continues. Civil rights groups are demanding the state at least be more clear on the details of how juveniles will be kept away from the general population. The inmates won't be transferred until September 15 according to the governor's office. (WBRZ)
