First, today's weather:
Partly sunny, a stray t-storm. High: 85 Low: 74.
Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today:
- A 16-year-old carjacking suspect was shot in the leg by Jefferson Parish deputies on Wednesday. The carjacking took place in Terrytown around 8:30 p.m. and JPSO deputies began investigating shortly after. Officers approached two suspects in an allegedly stolen vehicle who then fled and gunfire was exchanged. No one else was wounded and the 16-year-old's injury was non-fatal. (NOLA.com)
- Amid backlash over Mayor Cantrell's travel expenses financed by taxpayers, Cantrell says she won't repay the city the $30,000 used for travel accommodations. It's unclear whether or not she is obligated to, since she is an elected official and not a city employee. New Orleans city employees are required to use the lowest possible fare for travel expenses or reimburse the city for an upgrade. (FOX 8 Local First)
- The Slidell Police Department along with NOPD and the FBI, has connected a spree of recent carjackings and crimes across Orleans and Jefferson Parish to a fast food drive-thru carjacking that took place on Tuesday night on Pontchartrain Drive. The victim had begun ordering at the drive-thru when another car pulled in front of them and forced the victim to get out of the car and abandon their vehicle at gunpoint. (WBRZ)
