Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. A shooting, armed robbery, and home invasion all took place across New Orleans on Thursday evening. At about 9 PM in Central City, a 19-year-old male was shot and taken the hospital for treatment. Then, around 11 PM in the Lower Garden District, a home invasion was reported on St. Andrew Street and upon inspection Police found evidence of the invasion, but not the victim. The night culminated of the robbery of a 77-year-old man who was robbed at gunpoint after being followed out of store in Hoffman Triangle at 12:35 PM. (Uptown Messenger)
  2. New Orleans' 2022 crime statistics are peaking, with the city now having one of the highest homicide rates in the nation. 2022 also had a record high number of female victims, with 37 murders topping the highest since 1996. Organizations across the city are scrambling to combat the recent crime wave, with new and revamped programs and strategies in the New Orleans Family Justice Center and NOPD. (WWLTV.com)
  3. Amid thousands flooding the French Quarter for NYE's weekend celebrations, two crimes have now taken place, the latest being a couple who entered what they thought was a rideshare vehicle only to be robbed in the Quarter on Friday just after 5 AM. The couple flagged down a car they thought was their rideshare and realizing they were not being taken to their destination attempted to exit at which point they were robbed by the driver.
