The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello all. It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily. Let's get this Thursday started off right, with a quick guide to everything you need to know about what's happening these days in town...

First, today's weather:

Cloudy, heavy t-storms; humid. High: 86 Low: 76.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. New Orleans animal shelters are almost at full capacity and are encouraging people to come in and adopt! It is currently kitten season, meaning many litters of kittens are being found all across the city. You can have to option to either adopt or foster these new companions! (WGNO New Orleans)
  2. SWAT was called to the scene in Harvey where a Tennessee man who is wanted on drug charges barricaded himself inside a hotel room on Wednesday morning. U.S. Marshall and Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office assisted the team on Manhattan Boulevard. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. An 18-year-old man has been arrested after his 2-year-old brother was allegedly accidentally shot in the leg. According to the man, he was fueling his car at Costco when he heard a gunshot ring out and saw that his brother had accidentally shot himself in the leg with a stolen gun in the backseat. The boy is recovering in stable condition and the man is scheduled to appear in court on second-degree cruelty to juveniles and possession of a stolen firearm. (WWLTV.com)
