First, today's weather:

Rather cloudy with a t-storm. High: 87 Low: 78.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. Brad Pitt and his charity, Make It Right, which he co-founded after Hurricane Katrina to help house lower Ninth Ward families, has agreed on a $20 million dollar settlement with homeowners in a 2018 lawsuit that alleged the buildings were not up to standards. Pitt has also allegedly donated his own money to try and fix the homes, which he claims he had no involvement in building. (leader-call.com)
  2. Citing the current case count of 127 monkeypox infections across the state of Louisiana, the co-founder of the highly anticipated Bourbon Street Extravaganza has been canceled this year due to safety concerns. After missing the last two years due to COVID, thousands were excited to celebrate the end of Southern Decadence at the intersection of St. Ann and Bourbon, but all that close contact made the event too high risk to safely execute this Labor Day weekend.(WWLTV.com)
  3. Despite NOPD and Mayor Cantrell pushing to remove the Federal Consent Decree that has been in place for over a decade, a judge has upheld the requirement citing that NOLA's police force has 'backslid' in many areas and suffers from lack of personnel and funding. Mayor Cantrell expressed disappointment at the decision, claiming it hinders the department from improving those issues. (WGNO New Orleans)
