🌱 BUKU Cancelled + NOPD Wants To End Federal Consent Decree

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hi all. It's me, Shannon Denney, your host of the New Orleans Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now.

Now, today's weather:

Partly sunny with a t-storm. High: 86 Low: 77.

Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:

  1. BUKU Festival announced that it will be cancelling the March 2023 date without any statement addressing if the festival will be returning. Organizers stated that "times are changing ... and the current model of BUKU needs to take a break." It's unclear if this means BUKU will be leaving New Orleans for good or just taking a brief hiatus. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. The Orleans Parish Justice Center experienced four stabbings within an eight-day period. Beginning, July 28, four separate incidents occurred where four male residents were stabbed while inside one of the pods. Three were transported to University Medical Center for treatment and one had injuries that were able to be treated within the facility. All four victims were moved to different pods after the incidents, which are being investigated by the ISB (Investigative Services Bureau). (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. NOPD has announced that it is seeking to end the federal consent decree, which was enacted over 10 years ago when an investigation by the United States Department of Justice revealed that NOPD had a pattern of unconstitutional policing. (WDSU New Orleans)

Today in New Orleans:
