Élan Academy Community Book Drive: Building Home Libraries for New Orleans Students

Élan Academy, a tuition-free PK4–8 public charter school in New Orleans, will host a Community Book Drive on Saturday, October 24, from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM to help students build home libraries and expand access to books beyond the classroom.

The community is invited to donate new, age-appropriate books for Élan scholars. The Book Drive will bring together Élan Academy Founder and CEO Dr. Melanie Askew Clark, Louisiana State Representative Delisha Boyd, OPSB District 4 Member Katrina Chantelle Griffin, and local community partners in support of young readers.

For Dr. Clark, the mission is deeply personal. Growing up in a home impacted by domestic violence, books became a refuge, offering her peace and helping her imagine possibilities beyond her circumstances. That experience ultimately helped shape the school she founded and her commitment to ensuring New Orleans children have access to books and opportunities that expand what they believe is possible.
