Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. The city of New Orleans will be launching an amnesty late-fee program in October for residents who were unable to pay minor fees like parking tickets, hotel/motel taxes and library fees during the pandemic. This, along with the Sewage and Water Board offering reprieve from certain late fees, is part of an effort to get utilities and payment back on track for the city. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. New Orleans' chief administrative officer has finally announced that Mayor LaToya Cantrell must repay travel expenses as the ruling from the city attorney has officially considered her a city employee. Cantrell must now pay back the city the $30,000 in expenses of travel upgrades under the city rule that employees must take the cheapest travel option available or pay for upgrades themselves. (WDSU New Orleans)
  3. Fallout from Hurricane Ian could potentially worsen Louisiana's insurance crisis. Many insurers spread their business across the gulf coast and the recent destruction seen from Hurricanes Ida and Ian in the past year has worsened the stress put on an already tough business. Some predict that many will leave the industry as a result of this week's storm. (FOX 8 Local First)
