Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- A woman open fired on a business on Thursday night after being involved in an altercation. The woman fired and struck an 18-year-old girl and then fled the scene. The woman allegedly was escorted out of the business after being issued a refund and then took a gun out of her vehicle and fired through the window on St. Charles Avenue. (FOX 8)
- Law enforcement across Louisiana is coming together to provide security details for New Orleans' Mardi Gras parades, according to Mayor LaToya Cantrell. Jefferson Parish has apparently signed on to an agreement potentially offering a maximum of 100 officers as support for some of the parades. Xavier and Holy Cross University's police departments have also signed on to help, though neighboring parishes, like St. John, St. Tammany and St. Bernard, have said no. (WWLTV)
- The end number for total car thefts in the first 28 days of 2023 reached to 728, an 118 percent increase this year. According to the President of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, many of those cars have been recovered, although 2023 is already seeming like it will surpass the theft numbers of 2022. (WWLTV)
