π± Carjacking Tow Fees To Be Reimbursed + Increased NOPD Presence
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Good morning, everybody! It's Friday in New Orleans and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening in the community today. Today we have these stories and more:
- More NOPD officers could be back on the streets starting this weekend.
- Financial relief for carjacking victims.
- A fatal boating accident in Lake Pontchartrain.
But first, today's weather:
Humid with sunshine. High: 92 Low: 77.
Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- Up to 75 NOPD officers will be back patrolling the streets of New Orleans beginning this Sunday. This is a part of NOPD's effort to combat the lowest employment crisis they have seen in decades. Now, administrative, specialty and district investigative and ranking officer units will be required to patrol at least once a week. (WWLTV.com)
- A shrimp boat was found capsized in Lake Pontchartrain on Wednesday leaving one dead and one injured. The St. Tammany Sheriff's office was notified on Wednesday evening that the 21-foot shrimp boat had not yet returned from the lake that day. Two men had taken out the boat to shrimp when they became stuck around midnight. In the process of trying to unstick the vessel, the boat capsized and both passengers were flung into the lake. - The City of New Orleans will now be offering financial relief to people whose stolen cars were recovered by NOPD. Previously, it was up to the victim to pay tow truck companies in order to have their carjacked vehicle returned to them, but cars recovered in Orleans Parish will be reimbursed by the city for up to 90 days.
