The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.
Hello again, neighbors! It's Saturday in New Orleans and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening locally. Hope you all have a great day.I'll get right to it.
First, today's weather:
Variably cloudy with t-storms. High: 88 Low: 78.
Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans:
- Fifty people became U.S citizens at the National WWII Museum on Friday morning. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that it held a ceremony at the museum for the group to take an Oath of Allegiance. The group consisted of people from 22 countries. (WGNO New Orleans)
- Early Friday morning police found a 41-year-old woman who had been fatally shot in New Orleans East just after 1 a.m. near Two Oaks apartments. The victim died at the scene and the alleged shooter has surrendered herself to police. (FOX 8 Local First)
- Mayor Cantrell's administration had their appeal rejected after they attempted to block a U.S. District Judge's order that the city of New Orleans build a new jail specifically to house inmates with mental and medical health needs. The city argued that there isn't enough money to fund this operation and that the current jail meets standards, but this order comes as a part of a 2012 lawsuit that ruled the current New Orleans jails had unsafe conditions.
