🌱 COVID Testing NOLA's Sewage + NOLA East Shooting

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hello and welcome to the first weekend edition of the New Orleans Daily! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny, a shower; warm. High: 82 Low: 71.

Here are the top five stories in New Orleans today:

  1. A double shooting in New Orleans East left a teen dead and a woman wounded on Friday night. NOPD responded to a report of gunfire and found the teen dead upon arrival. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment and is considered stable. (FOX 8 Local First)
  2. Going forward, New Orleans will start using a new method of COVID testing to determine the viral infection rates in the city. NOLA's sewage will start being tested for COVID-19. This will help determine potential outbreak risks based on the viral particles found in sewage from different communities and allows COVID restrictions to be proactive about minimizing outbreaks. (WWLTV.com)
  3. As the NOPD manpower shortage continues, Mayor Cantrell has begun a new payment incentive to try to combat the downward trend. Officers who complete training will receive a $5,000 bonus and then will increase by increments of that same amount for every five years the officer is with the department. (FOX 8 Local First)
