Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- Mayor LaToya Cantrell and City Council President Helena Moreno are currently feuding over allegations that Moreno's executive protection, Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office deputy, Greg Maleaux, has been stalking Mayor Cantrell. Deputy Maleaux was reassigned from his position with Moreno to Orleans Parish Jail over allegations he was stalking Cantrell after photos of her using a city-owned French Quarter apartment surfaced as a part of a Metropolitan Crime Commission investigation. Moreno has avidly denied the allegations against Maleaux. (WDSU)
- The New Orleans District Attorney's office has added a new dashboard tracking and evaluating the efforts of the DA's office and their trials that will be open to the public in an effort to increase transparency. Currently, 21 other cities have similar setups, and you can access NOLA's on the Orleans Parish DA's website to see how effect and fair the work is at the DA's office. (WGNO New Orleans)
- Gov. John Bel Edwards is scheduled to declare Oct. 24 as Statewide Red Beans & Rice Day in honor of the 19th century Louisiana tradition. Cajun Country Rice and Camellia Beans, two iconic brands a part of the red beans and rice duo, have joined together to bring a Red Beans and Rice Mondays camping across the state.
