Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. A fatal car wreck involving two stolen vehicles left a 16-year-old dead after the car he was driving was struck and veered off the road into two houses. New Orleans police began investigating on Monday night in Desire where the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene and the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he died. (WDSU New Orleans)
  2. New Orleans has increases the fine for illegal dumping to $500 along with community service and potential jail time in an effort to decrease the trash piles that have plagued the city. The Michoud exit on I-10 is currently closed until further notice while the DOTD cleans up the hundreds of tires that have been dumped there. 3. New Orleans has received an "F" grade for our affordable housing situation for the 3rd year in a row. The annual HousingNOLA report card has yet again ranked New Orleans' affordable housing situation as dire, and states the median rent is $1,082 while the median income is $4,000, meaning that the average New Orleanian is spending about 30% of their income on housing.
