Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:

  1. A child at KIPP Elementary school reportedly brought a gun to the school, though it was reported that it appeared no harm was intended or caused to other students. During recess, a student told a teacher that they had brought what was thought to be a BB gun to school, but it was later found out to be a real weapon. The gun was quickly confiscated. 2. The New Orleans DEA office reported that in 2022, they seized enough Fentanyl to wipe out the population of four states. They estimate that now about four out of ten pills that contain fentanyl contain a high enough dose to be considered lethal which is twice as much as it was in 2021. You can also view a new part of the DEA's website, which tracks how much of the drug has been seized. (BRProud.com)
  3. Mayor LaToya Cantrell has set a deadline for Mardi Gras Krewes to finalize their security plans for the parade routes. Security plans must be submitted by January 27th if they want to return to their original routes. NOPD is helping the Krewes to make sure that the officers running security are certified to work in Louisiana. (WDSU New Orleans)
