Final birthday for Bruff Commons

Tulane Dining pays tribute to its soon-to-be-replaced dining hall

On December 10, 2018, Tulane Dining Services by Sodexo held a final birthday party for its long-standing dining hall on campus. After almost six decades feeding Tulane students, Bruff Commons will close next summer for future renovation.

The facility will be replaced with an ultramodern dining hall in a new, nearby location on campus.

Bruff’s final birthday party began at 5 p.m. with a petting zoo, caricature artists, face painters, balloon animals, a bounce house, create-your-own spin art, make-your-own pixie sticks, and fresh-baked cookies.

Edison’s Espresso and Tea Bar, a locally-owned café, kept students warm with gourmet hot cocoa garnished with jumbo marshmallows, pretzel sticks, dark chocolate sauce, and more.

"As someone who has had many Bruff adventures, I’m sad to see it go, but the birthday party was a highlight of my semester,” said Sam Hartman, a senior at Tulane.

From 10 p.m. to midnight, Tulane Dining Services treated students to free mocktails, sushi, pizza bites, mini po-boys and fries, house-made ice cream sandwiches, and a giant birthday cake.

Featured activities included a roller-skating rink, photo booth, and a DJ to help keep the party alive all night.

Students received goodie bags filled with candy, branded stickers, and event t-shirts.

“Bruff's birthday was an absolute blast,” said Alex Kaufman, a Tulane senior. “All of the food, decorations, and activities were so fun and made it a really great break from all the stress of finals. Overall, it was a very fitting goodbye to Bruff.”
