Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- A former NOPD officer has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage girl while on duty. In September 2020, former officer Rodney Vicknair picked up a 15-year-old sexual assault survivor to drive her to the hospital for a sexual assault exam. Vicknair allegedly touched her inappropriately during the car ride and asked to have sex, according to the arrest warrant. (WDSU New Orleans)
- Mayor LaToya Cantrell has been barred from using the Wisner Grant Fund until her next court hearing. The Wisner Grant was established as a 100-year charitable trust in 1914 to the City of New Orleans to be used for beautification and upkeep of the city. Cantrell has a lot of control over how the money is spent but City Council wants to dissolve the fund and bar Cantrell from being able to use it. (WDSU New Orleans)
- Three men were shot in front of University Medical Center on Thursday night. NOPD received a call of shots fired around 6:30 p.m. and when EMS arrived on scene, they took one victim to the hospital. The other two victims took themselves to the hospital for treatment. (WWLTV.com)
