🌱Four Orleans Jail Supervisors Fired + Woman Retrieves Her Stolen Car

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New Orleans.

Hi all. I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through the most important things happening locally. Follow along for the latest...

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny with a t-storm. High: 84 Low: 75.

Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:

  1. There is no end in sight for the months-long leadership turmoil at the Orleans Parish Jail. The Orelans Parish Sheriff has fired four supervisors that had a combined 100 years of experience at the prison. The supervisors of two floors, mental health unit and intake processing have all been let go without a public explanation by the sheriff's office. (WWLTV.com)
  2. As the NOPD officer shortage continues and slow response times are becoming the norm, a New Orleans woman took matters into her own hands and tracked down her own stolen vehicle when the police couldn't assist her. The woman called to file a police report when she discovered her car had been stolen and then again later when she used a tracking device to find the location of her vehicle. She called NOPD both times who claimed they would send someone out to assist her, but when they didn't show, the woman went out and got the car back herself.(WWLTV.com)
  3. The Louisiana State Ethics Board ruled that former Orleans Parish Schools Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr. is able to work as a paid consultant for New Orleans Charter Schools because he would not directly work with the Orleans Parish School Board. Louisiana has a law that prohibits former heads or elected officials from working with their previous agency for two years after they leave their position and though Lewis' firm consults with charter schools, he does not have any contracts with them.
